The resting tone is kind of like the home-base of a song. Most songs end on the resting tone. Students in lower grades often practice singing the resting tone of our songs in music class. Below you will see a first grade class and a second grade class doing resting tone activities. You'll notice that the first graders use a neutral syllable "bum" to sing the resting tone, but the second graders label the resting tone "la" because the song is in minor tonality.
